The Airport Authority was created in 1996 by Session law. Since the creation, it has required county funding and personnel to facilitate operation, and FFA regulations have required the county to continue to sponsor the airport. The dissolvement of the Airport Authority will take place on June 30th and will be solely the county's duty to maintain and operate. The goal is to have an increase in adequate operation by shifting the airport into a county department. Additionally, the airport will take on a similar but new name–the Lincoln County Regional Airport. The funds held by the authority will be adopted into the county’s enterprise fund.
There will be a board established with five members having aviation and general business knowledge to aid the airport manager. Commissioners Patton and Cesena agreed the board should be made up of Lincoln County residents only.
