At the County Commissioners monthly meeting in March, three different price points were brought to the floor for the funding of the new animal services facility. All three bids ranged in price from around thirteen million to just over fifteen million. The bids were supplied by Hickory Construction and ranged in scope according to price. Director of animal services Jana Aviles addressed the board in support of whichever bid they chose to accept.  The project has been in discussion for many years now, and preconstruction work was started on November 18, 2024 when ground was broken. The project was earmarked for fourteen million dollars. According to the county manager, Mr. David Madden, the funds for this project were set aside in a capital reserve fund that has been earning interest. The prices provided did not include furniture fixtures and equipment costs. Estimated ff&e costs were three to four hundred thousands dollars. A motion was made by commissioner Cesena to approve the $15,308,882 bid. A vote was then taken 4-1 in favor; commissioner Mark Mullen being the only one to oppose. The new building will be located on John Howell Memorial Drive just a few yards from the existing building. It will include more kennel space, a vet/surgical suite, cat adoption mall and six outdoor exercise areas. The total square footage of the building will be 24,926 Sq. Ft. with the ability for expansion in the future. The full site plans can be seen at this link on the Lincoln County website: View Link
