The Lincoln County Memorial Library will be 100 years old on May 2, 2025. It was founded by members of the North Carolina Sorosis Club who wanted to honor the men of Lincoln County who fought in World War I.  To celebrate this, the county is commemorating May 2025 to April 2026 as the “Year of the Lincoln County Public Library,” with the library offering special educational events and opportunities during this time. The county commissioners passed a proclamation last week “Encouraging all citizens to join (them) in extending sincere gratitude to its staff, trustees, and volunteers, both past and present, for their accomplishments, dedication, and commitment to the residents of Lincoln County with displays of support and personal messages.” The Library’s mission statement is to “Cultivate lifelong learners and facilitate connections that build community.” The Lincoln County Commissioners believe the library plays an “integral part” in the general welfare of the community as stated in their proclamation. Commissioner Cesena moved to vote in favor of the proclamation, and the council as a whole passed it unanimously.
